Introducing the Return to Self Zine!
Let's talk all things Venus.
Please help me welcome my new creative baby that I’m so excited to share with y’all—The Return to Self Zine, a digital quarterly magazine for all of my spiritual enthusiasts!
On Monday I launched my latest passion project, which came to me a few months ago when I was sitting at Peet’s enjoying my mint mojito iced coffee (freakin’ yum). I had been feeling so creatively underwhelmed and stuck, and toyed with the idea of creating a zine.
Just something simple. After all, I have endless content just sitting around on my phone that doesn’t get used.
Well, “simple” ended up being a 33-page digital magazine, because y’all know I always be doin’ too much. I couldn’t help myself. The ideas were endless, and honestly I probably could’ve added 20 more pages if I didn’t force myself to slow down and relax.
(The vision is there, though, and I’m excited to see what it could turn into.)
Regardless, I was really excited about creating this zine for many reasons. First of all, I’m a nostalgic heaux. Bring back the 90s once and for all, please. I was obsessed with magazines. I even wrote to Seventeen magazine when I was in 7th (!!) grade to ask what college courses I’d need to take in order to intern with them (let’s take a moment to let that Capricorn ass experience settle in)….
They actually wrote me back to tell me that I should focus on English or Journalism majors and that their internships are in New York. I wish I still had that letter.
Anyway, my trajectory clearly went a different path, but the passions always linger, and when it came to satiating my hunger for some creative freedom, this is what was born.
I wanted to create something that served the mystical minds of people like myself. People who are thirsty for knowledge and fun facts and history, but are also artsy and interested in the power of emotional expression.
I knew each issue would focus on something or someone specific, Venus was always at the top of my list. I have a deep affinity with Venus, and it was interesting because the more I learned about her historical mythology, the more alignment I’d find.
Since you know I love doing readings, I made sure to incorporate that as well, both as a way to stamp my signature on it and also a nod to the horoscopes in the back of old magazines.
And speaking of signature, I included a personal essay as well that has a very The Problem With Dating essence to it for all of my OGs.
But that’s not all…
