Let's break down the magick of 8/8/8
There is magick in the air today, so you don’t want to waste it!
Some of you may know today as the Lion’s Gate Portal, a sort of new astrological phenomenon that occurs every year on August 8. Now, I’ll admit, there’s a bit of a debate about this depending on who you talk to.
So, let’s talk about it.
The Lion's Gate Portal is an astrological and spiritual event that occurs annually between July 26 and August 12, with its peak on August 8th (8/8).
This period marks the alignment of the Sun in Leo, the star Sirius, and Earth. Ancient Egyptians are believed to have recognized and celebrated this alignment, associating it with the rising of the Nile River and alignment between our Sun and the spiritual sun Sirius, which was linked to prosperity and abundance.
The Lion's Gate Portal is considered a time of heightened cosmic energy, providing opportunities for spiritual growth, transformation, and manifestation. It is seen as a gateway to higher realms, allowing individuals to access greater consciousness and spiritual insight.
What’s the debate?
Well, you may have heard that there are multiple systems of astrology, and two of those systems are Western (or Tropical) astrology and Vedic (or Sidereal) astrology. And they each operate with a different sky.
I know, it sounds a bit strange, and I promise I’ll go more into this in another newsletter, but here’s the basics…
Western astrology uses the Tropical Zodiac, which is based on the seasons and the position of the Sun relative to the Earth. The zodiac signs are fixed and do not account for the precession of the equinoxes.
Meanwhile, Vedic uses the Sidereal Zodiac, which is based on the actual positions of constellations in the sky. It accounts for the precession of the equinoxes, meaning the positions of the zodiac signs shift slightly over time.
Yes, that means you could have an entirely different birth chart in Vedic astrology and I’ll share my theory on how to utilize that another time. For now, just know that Vedic astrologers are not celebrating Lion’s Gate today, because according to their sky, the Sun is still in Cancer.
Regardless of what you believe, the numerology and planetary ruler of the day is significant and potent time for manifestation.
The numerology of 8
Today’s date is 08/08/2024, which reduces to 8/8/8 (which also reduces to 6).
The number 8 in numerology represents abundance, power, and balance. It is associated with achievement, success, and the material world. The shape of the number 8, resembling the infinity symbol, signifies infinite possibilities and the flow of energy.
The number 888 amplifies the energy of the number 8, symbolizing a powerful connection to the spiritual and material realms. It represents financial abundance, prosperity, and a strong alignment with one’s life purpose. Seeing 888 is often considered a sign of encouragement and support from the universe.
Not only that, but it’s a karmic number and we’ve already talked about how this is a karmic year. This is feeling like a nice windfall from the Universe for all of the good karma you’ve accrued up until this point.
Meanwhile, the number 6 is the embodiment of the heart. It represents unconditional love and the ability to support, nurture, and heal. It is a powerful force of compassion and empathy and its warm light is a beacon of hope. Its role is to use its heart and soul to be of service to others.
All of this energy is influencing the magick of today, along with the fact that it’s Thursday, which is the day ruled by Jupiter.
The power of Jupiter

Jupiter is known as the planet of expansion, growth, luck, and wisdom. It is the largest planet in our solar system, symbolizing abundance and generosity in astrology. Jupiter's influence is often associated with opportunities for learning, travel, and philosophical or spiritual development.
Thursday is ruled by Jupiter and carries its expansive and positive energy. It is considered an auspicious day for activities related to growth, success, and abundance.

Whether you’re claiming today as the Lion’s Gate Portal or not, there’s no denying that a lot of moving pieces are coming together to assist in your abundance journey.
Spend this day consuming all of the things you want more of in your life. Try your best to avoid drama, self-loathing, pity and overthinking to the point where everything feels hopeless. Because again, Jupiter can expand whatever it’s given (good or not so good).
This is a time to get clear on what you want the rest of this journey to feel like. With the influence of the number 6, this is about aligning with your true heart’s desires. Allow yourself to release the blocks and limiting beliefs that prevent you from believing that life is available to you.
