What Is Your Major Arcana Energy for 2026?

A different way to work with time, tarot, and your becoming

I was recently sitting down to calculate my personal year number for 2026 — something I’ve done for years — when I felt a nudge to try something a little different...

What if I let tarot show me the energetic theme of the year?

So instead of doing the usual numerology simplification between 1-9 (not counting the master numbers), I added together my birth month, birth date, and the year 2026, reduced it to a number between 1–22, and matched it to a Major Arcana card (with 22 corresponding to The Fool).

What came through stopped me in my tracks.

Not only did the card resonate deeply for what I feel is unfolding — when I went back and calculated this same formula for some of the most pivotal years of my life, the cards aligned uncannily with what I was actually living at the time.

The year I experienced my shadow initiation relationship? The Moon.
The year I had to let go and surrender? The Hanged Man.
The year everything unraveled before it rebuilt? The Tower.

So I wanted to share this practice with you.

Here’s how to calculate your card:

  1. Add each digit of your birth month

  2. With each digit of your birth date

  3. And 2 + 0 + 2 + 6

  4. Reduce the number until you land between 1–22

    • If you get 22, that corresponds to The Fool

Example:
Birthdate: May 14
5 + 1 + 4 + 1 + 0 = 11, which corresponds to the Justice card.

This card represents the archetypal energy you’ll be working with throughout this next cycle for you—not the calendar year, but from one birthday to the next.

Whatever major arcana card arises, approach it not as fate—but as a theme, invitation, and mirror.

Below is a guide to help you interpret how your card’s energy may express itself.
