We recently experienced the Capricorn Full Moon, which is a moon that asks us to examine the structures we have built our lives upon.
Capricorn is often misunderstood (I know this personally). People hear about Capricorn energy and immediately think of ambition, success, discipline, and achievement.
And let’s be real, this is all true.
But beneath all of that, Capricorn speaks to something far more intimate. It speaks to the ways we learn to survive.
Capricorn energy highlights the quiet understanding many of us inherited very early in life — that in order to be loved, respected, safe, or valued, we must become capable, useful, perform well and hold ourselves together.
Capricorn also teaches us responsibility, and at its highest expression, it is a great teacher of devotion and integrity. The ability to build something meaningful through patience and perseverance.
However, the shadow is often a voice that dismisses your needs and instead tells you to keep going. Do more. Don’t fall apart now. Rest later.
And somewhere along the way, we stop asking ourselves a very important question: Who taught me that my worth is tied to what I can endure?
Below you’ll find the three shadow work prompts we used in our Shadow Work Through Tarot & Poetry circle for the Capricorn Full Moon, which are designed to help you work with this energy through tarot and generative writing.
Hold each prompt in your mind’s eye as you pull a card, and allow the symbolism to guide your reflection. Let the card be your compass, and the page be your sanctuary.
If you don’t work with cards, that’s OK. Use these prompts to help you spark a dialogue with your subconscious.
There’s no right or wrong way to do this. All it asks of you is to be honest.
Where have I learned to measure my worth by what I produce rather than who I am?
Capricorn often internalizes the belief that value must be earned through performance, so explore where achievement has become your identity.
Where has discipline stopped serving me and started becoming a form of suffering?
Capricorn’s shadow can turn structure into rigidity and resilience into quiet self-denial. Explore where you have mistaken struggle for virtue.
What part of me learned that asking for help was unsafe?
Capricorn often carries the burden of hyper-independence, believing strength means needing no one. Explore where you struggle to receive support and what emotional needs you suppress.
