about bruna.
Bruna Nessif — known to many as Mystic Bru — is a writer, wellness educator, and the creator of Return to Self, a transformational framework that helps guide people into uncovering the unconscious roles they've learned to play, understand the invisible rules shaping their lives, and reclaim the freedom to choose differently.
Long before this became her work, it was her question.
As a deeply intuitive and observant child, Bruna always sensed there was more happening beneath the surface of people's words, behaviors, and relationships than what was immediately visible. She became fascinated by the hidden forces that shape identity: the stories we inherit, the roles we adopt, and the beliefs we mistake for truth.
Her early pursuit of psychology was an attempt to understand those forces. Journalism followed for the same reason. Whether studying human behavior or interviewing strangers, she found herself asking the same question:
What's the story beneath the story?
In her 20s, Bruna created The Problem With Dating, a blog that explored modern relationships, heartbreak, self-worth, and the patterns people unconsciously repeat in pursuit of love. What began as a personal exploration quickly resonated with readers around the world, eventually reaching more than half a million readers and leading to a dating column for Playboy.
But behind the articles and growing audience, another question was beginning to emerge:
Why do we keep repeating patterns we can clearly see?
That question became even more personal as Bruna examined her own relationship history. Despite years of self-reflection and insight, she found herself confronting the same emotional themes in different forms. The deeper she looked, the more she realized that understanding a pattern wasn't the same thing as changing it.
That realization led her into what would become a seven-year pilgrimage of healing, study, and self-inquiry.
Along the way, she immersed herself in psychology, shadow work, coaching, contemplative practices, energy healing, astrology, mythology, and the study of human behavior. She became a certified professional coach, a Reiki Master, and eventually wrote her first book, Let That Shit Go: A Journey to Forgiveness, Healing and Understanding Love.
Yet the most important discoveries weren't found in certifications or books. They emerged through the lived experience of confronting her own survival strategies, inherited beliefs, and relational patterns.
Over time, a realization began to take shape: Most people don't need more information...
They need a way to understand the unconscious roles they've adapted in order to feel safe, loved, accepted, or worthy—and a pathway for relating differently.
That realization eventually became Return to Self.
Today, Bruna helps people uncover the relational roles shaping their lives, identify the Invisible Rules operating beneath them, and expand their capacity for conscious choice. Drawing from psychology, storytelling, coaching, shadow integration, astrology, and lived experience, she guides people through a process of remembering who they were before survival became their identity.
Her work is rooted in guiding people to experiencing how they can maintain connection without losing themselves in the process.
Rather than offering quick fixes or endless insight, Bruna's work focuses on helping people move from unconscious adaptation to conscious choice—from surviving their lives to actively participating in them.
Because the goal was never to become someone else.
It's to return to who you’ve always been.
